As a passionate splitboarder and guide, I am constantly looking for the perfect setup that is convincing both on the ascent and on the descent. The Salomon Highpath splitboard has sparked my curiosity – if only because of its promise of being an all-mountain splitboard with an environmentally friendly approach.
First impression & design
At first glance, the Salomon Highpath looks very clean and minimalist. The subtle design is striking, with Salomon obviously placing a high value on sustainability. The board is largely made from environmentally friendly materials such as recycled wood, biological resins, and sustainable fibers – a plus for those who also pay attention to their ecological footprint when it comes to equipment.
The construction feels solid. From the first touch, you can tell that Salomon has paid attention not only to the look but also to the durability. The board has a light but sturdy feel, which is always a good first impression.
Ascent & Handling
The Highpath has a medium to stiff flex rating (7/10), which is also noticeable when climbing. The board is stable and reliable when touring, without feeling too stiff. It offers good edge grip, especially when traversing and on steeper ascents, which is important to me in difficult conditions.
Thanks to its rocker-camber combination, the board is very comfortable to walk up with. The rocker in the nose and tail provides lift in deep snow, while the flat camber underfoot ensures firm contact with the snow. This makes the Highpath stable and safe when climbing, without consuming too much energy when tracking.
Downhill & handling
On the descent, the Salomon Highpath shows its true strength. The flex makes the board a versatile companion. Whether I was in powder or on wind-pressed, hard snow – the Highpath could be steered precisely in different conditions.
In deep snow, it impresses with plenty of lift, thanks to the slightly raised nose and flatter tail. The rocker ensures that you stay up even in deeper snow without having to lean back too far. At the same time, the flat camber underfoot gives the board the necessary responsiveness and stability on firm ground or in difficult terrain.
On hard-packed slopes and fast descents, the board also offers impressive stability. Some may find it a little sluggish. In any case, it is not super playful. For splitboarders who like to switch between powder and all-mountain terrain, the Highpath is a great choice.
Workmanship and binding system
Salomon relies on the proven Voilé puck system for the inserts, which I personally like because it is easy to use and reliable. Switching from touring to riding mode was quick and easy. The Plum carabiners that hold the board together in touring mode are simple and functional – no unnecessary complications, exactly what I expect from a splitboard.
The board's overall workmanship is also convincing. The edges and base look high quality and robust. Even after some hard rides in rocky terrain, the Highpath showed only minimal signs of wear. The topsheet coating was a bit more susceptible to scratches after intensive use, but that didn't affect its functionality.
Sustainability and environmental awareness
A big selling point of the Salomon Highpath is the sustainability approach. Salomon uses environmentally friendly materials in its production, such as sustainable wood, biobased resin, and recycled fibers. The board is manufactured under the “Greenpoxy” label, which describes the use of environmentally friendly epoxy resins.
For me, this point is particularly noteworthy. At a time when we are all concerned about our ecological footprint, Salomon shows with the Highpath that performance and sustainability can go hand in hand. It is encouraging to see the industry moving in a greener direction without sacrificing performance.
Conclusion
The Salomon Highpath splitboard has truly impressed me. It offers a balanced blend of performance, lightness and versatility – ideal for splitboarders who don't want to compromise on either ascent or descent. The Highpath is an excellent choice for riders who ride in a variety of terrain. The blend of a powerful flat-camber profile and playful rocker makes for the perfect all-mountain all-rounder.
The sustainability approach gives the board an additional advantage, and it is encouraging to see that Salomon is consciously moving towards more environmentally friendly production here.
